Biometric Data Retention and Destruction Policy
This policy explains how Protech collects, uses, and protects information provided through this website.
Effective Date: September 18, 2026
Protech Electronics, LLC, d/b/a Protech Automotive Solutions (“Protech”) use Samsara Inc.’s (“Samsara”) dashboard camera and technology (the “Dash Cam”) to ensure the safety of Company Vehicles operated by Protech teammates. The Samsara Dash Cam collects and processes data that may be considered biometric information, identifiers, or data under applicable state law (the “Dash Cam Information”). This Biometric Data Retention and Destruction Policy (the “Policy”) describes the Dash Cam Information, the manner in which Protech handles the Dash Cam Information, and Protech’s retention schedule and destruction policy for the Dash Cam Information.
Collection and Use of Dash Cam Information
The Samsara Dash Cam uses technology, including dual-facing cameras, that records, processes, and analyzes video images of a driver’s face and actions to monitor driving-behavior while in a Company Vehicle (the “Dash Cam Information”). For example, the Dash Cam detects whether a driver is engaging in certain distracted and unsafe driving behavior such as eating, drinking, drowsiness, using a hand-held device, or otherwise interacting with electronic equipment. Because the Dash Cam employs technology that captures and analyzes video images of a driver’s face, the Dash Cam Information may constitute biometric information, identifiers, or data under applicable state law.
Protech collects and processes Dash Cam Information for the purposes of (a) acknowledging/rewarding safe driving and promoting best driving practices, (b) identifying unsafe driving behaviors, (c) facilitating investigations of motor vehicle accidents or incidents, (d) supporting insurance claims, (e) complying with Protech’s legal and regulatory obligations, such as to respond to a subpoena or regulatory investigation, and (f) to enforce Protech policies including, but not limited to, the Dashboard Camera Policy. Protech will not share the Dash Cam Information with third parties except (a) where authorized by the driver or their legally authorized representative, (b) where the disclosure completes a financial transaction the driver or their legally authorized representative has requested or authorized, (c) where the disclosure is required by applicable law, or (d) where the disclosure is required pursuant to a valid warrant or subpoena issued by a court.
Protection, Storage, and Disclosure of Dash Cam Information
Protech protects and stores Dash Cam Information in accordance with applicable law and regulations. Protech protects, stores, and will only transmit Dash Cam Information using a reasonable standard of care, including in a manner that is the same as or more protected than the manner in which Protech protects, stores, and transmits other confidential or sensitive information.
Retention and Destruction of Dash Cam Information
Protech will retain Dash Cam Information until Protech determines that the Dash Cam Information is no longer needed to satisfy the purposes for which it was initially collected. However, Protech will not retain and will permanently destroy the Dash Cam Information relating to the driver no later than one (1) year after it was collected, subject to applicable law.
